Delegating Tasks Tips
When managing a business, time management, delegation, and organization go hand in hand. Once you have established where and what needs to be done, when it needs to be completed by, and what is needed to do the job correctly, it is time to consider who can do the best job. Often times, business owners and managers try to do everything themselves. Though you may know best how to do a task, it is most likely not possible for you to do all of the tasks, all of the time. This is where delegation comes into play. Delegating tasks allows more time for managers and business owners to concentrate on other areas of operating a business, makes business more productive which in turn means better wages, more money, more responsibilities without so much stress. See tips and our featured video below.
How to Delegate tasks
Before you start doling out jobs to everyone make sure you know exactly what you expect of the person you are giving the task to. Don't just throw your employee's out on a job. Clearly communicate to your chosen employees exactly what you want them to do, how it needs to be done, etc. Make sure they have had some training, watched training videos, and have a clear idea of what you expect them to do.
Delegating Tasks-Questions to Answer First:
Write down the following questions and answer them. Doing this will give you a clear idea of how to get most any task completed successfully. The first thing to do is decide which of your tasks can be delegated and which one's you can do yourself. Then answer these questions:
Allocation or Delegation?
Allocation is giving others work to do.
Delegation is giving others some of your own work to do.
When delegating your work to someone else you need to make sure you are selecting the person who can complete the job and do it well because if they do the job well, they will get credit for doing a good job and you will have less of a work load. One downfall to delegating someone to do some of your work is that if they do a bad job..you will get the blame which is why it is so important to make sure that the person or persons you delegate to do some of your work load are qualified to do it well and have everything they need to accomplish the task effectively.
